Zeal ≠ Discernment

There is a way to speak truth with grace, kindness, gentleness, and compassion. After all, the Jews did not marvel at the way in which Christ spoke (cf. John 7:46) due to His witty sarcasm and wiseacre attitude. To be sure, there are times when strong words, a blunt tone, and an unwavering countenance are required, but we must be mindful that our words do not become too salty, such that they move beyond purifying to simply destroying that which they touch.

Whose Church?

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. Every believer is a member of the Body of Christ. The local assembly where we gather to worship is a small flock among many that, when combined, compose the whole of Christ’s Church. Yet, while many agree with this in word, this principle is functionally denied by the near-worship and über-admiration of their pastor, to the point that they identify themselves, not as members of Christ’s body, but as members of a specific man’s “church.”

Dedicated Pastors Produce Discerning Sheep

Throughout the ages, God graciously has blessed His Church with gifted, committed men who have offered their lives to the service of the Lord and the proclamation of His Word. Faithful shepherds of Christ's sheep, they are models of truth and commitment.
 

Selfie Righteousness

There appears to be a growing tendency among professing Christians to ignorantly utilize social media for the celebration of oneself. In our attempts to appear spiritual and humble, we ultimately end up exclaiming, "Hey! Look at me! Look at how amazing I am! Look at how much more spiritual I am than you! Look at how much cuter my children are than yours; I must be more blessed! Look at how much more precious my 'quiet time' is!"
