Episode 6: What Happens When We See Beth Moore Teach the Bible?

A recent Christianity Today article, “What Happens When We See Women Teach the Bible,” presents popular SBC Bible teacher Beth Moore as a female teacher and leader who has inspired many. Yet, as many godly men and women have taken the time to examine her ministry over the years, several areas of concern have been revealed, including Moore’s claims to personal visions and revelations from God, her apparent willingness to teach men, and her distortion and misinterpretation of the Scriptures.

The most recent episode of Equipping Eve examines this Christianity Today article, as well as the teachings of Ms. Moore. The listener may find the links below to offer some helpful insights into why these areas are of such grave concern.

Anyone who claims to have a direct line to God, anyone who claims to be receiving direct messages from Him through visions, voices, impressions, and dreams, has placed herself in a position of unique authority. Who would not want to learn from a woman who hears God speak to her directly? After all, since the beginning ‘Eve’ has desired more (Genesis 3:6). And who would dare question the words and teachings of a woman who claims that God told her to speak them?

What is the ultimate outcome of this deception? A dissatisfaction with the word of God in spite of its sufficiency (2 Timothy 3:16–17) and in spite of a closed canon (Hebrews 1:1–2).

Ladies, if you are in your Bible and on your knees in prayer, rest assured that God will equip you. And He will indeed speak to you through His Word, which is living and active (Hebrews 4:12). Do not seek after visions and voices, rather seek Him where you know He may be found: in His precious, sufficient, infallible, inerrant, holy Word.
